Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Vijay D. Patil, the D Y Patil Deemed to be University, Navi Mumbai, successfully hosted the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) West Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet 2024-25, an esteemed initiative by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) which saw participation from 132 Vice Chancellors from the West Zone states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Goa in person, with over 100 Vice Chancellors joining virtually. Themed “Leadership & Governance in Higher Education,” the meet took place on December 20-21, 2024, and brought together distinguished academic leaders, policymakers, and educators from across the region.

The University’s School of Law hosted the Prestigious AIU Moot Court Competition which saw participation of 48 Universities from Western India. The Final Bench of the Competition was Full Bench comprising of Sitting Chairperson of DART, Justice Ashok Menon as a Chief Judge along with his Public Prosecutors and Senior Advocates of Bombay High Court and One Academician.

The University has been privileged to host an array of distinguished legal luminaries and industry stalwarts, like Datuk Dr. Sundara Rajoo, Chairman of SIAC, Singapore, Justice Indira Bannerjee and Justice Bhushan Gavai, esteemed Judges of the Supreme Court of India, Advocate Sangram Desai, Chairman of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa to name a few. Continuing its tradition of fostering academic excellence and innovation, the university is set to host Anveshan – A Student Research Convention in January 2025. Organized annually by the Association of Indian Universities, Anveshan aims to identify and nurture young talents and budding researchers from Indian universities. Transforming Healthcare for the Community

The university’s impact extends beyond academia, with Dr. Vijay D Patil's leadership driving remarkable advancements in healthcare. The DY Patil Hospital and Research Center, a 1,660-bed super-specialty NABH certified charitable hospital, stands as a testament to his philanthropic vision. Dedicated to providing accessible and quality healthcare, the hospital has pioneered numerous initiatives, including the Jeevan Dayi and Ayushman Bharat schemes, which have benefitted over 26,000 patients by alleviating medical expenses.

A significant milestone in the hospital's journey was the inauguration of the CN Medical Assistance Cell by CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis, which has facilitated free heart surgeries for more than 100 children, demonstrating the institution's commitment to providing critical healthcare to those in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital became a pillar of hope, treating over 50,000 patients and conducting screenings for more than 300,000 individuals in collaboration with civic bodies like NMMC, PMC, and Thane Corporation. These efforts underscore the university’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges at a community level.

One of his most notable initiatives, the ‘Dr. Vijay Patil Yojana’, has provided healthcare benefits to over 35,000 individuals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for the underprivileged. Such transformative programs exemplify his holistic approach to healthcare, rooted in compassion and innovation.

The University also has a 152-bed Ayurveda Hospital which is the first NABH-accredited Ayurveda Hospital in the State. A holistic approach including Yoga and Naturopathy with Physiotherapy is followed. The patients are provided with the medicines prepared in the Pharmacy attached to the hospital.

Building a Global Sports Legacy

The establishment of the DY Patil Stadium and Sports Academy in 2008 is a crowning achievement of Dr. Vijay D Patil's dedication to sports. Recognized as one of the top six cricket stadiums globally by the ICC, the stadium has hosted prestigious events, including IPL matches and FIFA tournaments, alongside concerts featuring international music icons like Chris Martin (Coldplay), Justin Beiber, Katy Perry & Dua Lipa to name a few.

Complementing the university's sporting initiatives is the cutting-edge Human High-Performance Centre under the School of Sports, Exercise & Nutrition Sciences. Equipped with advanced technology, this state-of-the-art facility enables students to conduct precise cardiopulmonary graded exercise tests and submaximal tests, setting a new benchmark in sports science education in India. This center plays a vital role in supporting academic research while fostering an environment where students gain practical, hands-on experience in sports science.

Beyond hosting events, the university’s contribution to sports development is profound. DY Patil Sports Academy’s collaboration with Bharat Ratna Shri Sachin Tendulkar led to the creation of the SRT 10 Global Cricket Academy, nurturing young talent and promoting holistic development in sports. Dr. Vijay D Patil's tenure as the Vice President and President of the Mumbai Cricket Association further solidified sporting culture at the university, benefiting students widely.
